Celebrate the season!

The season of holiday celebrations is soon upon us. Whether or not you and your family choose to celebrate any one of them in particular, the winter solstice is an occasion that we all have in common. This year, the official start of winter falls on December 21, also the darkest day of the year. From December 22nd onwards, this is the turning point when each day will grow lighter with more daylight.

Celebrating the winter solstice

Marking the winter solstice is a magnificent way to bring some joy to this darkest day of the year, and celebrate all the cozy and splendid things that come with the colder months. It’s a wonderful day to snuggle up by candlelight or the fireplace. The winter solstice is also an excellent occasion to teach children about the seasons and the sun’s path in the sky. The Farmer’s Almanac offers a great explanation about the winter solstice. Also check out this blog post for some wonderful activity ideas to mark the solstice and celebrate nature, including an excellent solstice tree idea.

❄️Winter favourites

Even if you are not a “winter person”, try and reflect and think about what some of your favourite things about this time of year are. Some of my cold-weather favourites are the sound of the crunch of snow under my boots, rosy cheeks, playing in the snow and curling up inside a warm and cozy space with a hot drink after an outdoor adventure. It is so much fun to get out and play with your kids during the winter months because they just adore the snow and playing in it. Pull on your boots and snow pants and get out there with them to build a snowman or go sledding. I am sure it will not only bring a smile to their faces but yours too.😃

Holiday Run-Around and Family Fun Event

Join us for some indoor holiday fun at our Holiday Run-Around and Family Fun Event on Saturday, December 2 at Quebec High School. It will be a morning of run-around activities and games in the gym, crafts, cookie decorating, face painting and more!  Please let us know if you plan on attending so we can be ready for you. This event is also an chance for you to open your hearts and help families in need by bringing a food donation to support the Community Christmas Hamper Campaign. For ideas of what kind of food donations are needed, please visit the Campaign webpage.
