Winter is knocking at our door a little early

I don’t know about you but a snowy Halloween was quite a surprise for me! I was running around trying to find snow pants and mittens on Monday morning. I’m guessing that I was not the only parent doing that. 😉 It seems like after a balmy September and October, winter is knocking on the door early and it will be interesting to see what Mother Nature has in store for November.

Although it is still officially fall, the recent snowfall is a good reminder of all the little things we need to do to get ready for winter. Be sure to make an appointment to get your winter tires put on and gather all the gear you’ll need to keep you and your little ones warm and dry. Check out these winter dressing tips from Naïtre et grandir. It’s a great reminder of what clothes children need during the cold months.

Do you find that you are feeling drained and exhausted these days? You are not alone. As we transition into colder and darker days, a lack of sunshine can greatly affect energy and mood. Fall is also a very busy time of year for families that can drain everyone’s energy reserves. Between running after little ones, homework in the evenings, extracurricular activities and the colder temperatures settling in, I often find myself rubbing my eyes and heading to bed a little earlier these days. How about you?

Remember, be kind to yourself. Being a parent is not always easy. It’s okay to allow yourself a little space to rest and take it easy when you have a few moments of downtime. Set a few tasks aside to give yourself a break.

Language development and your preschool-aged children

Do other people have a hard time understanding your child when they talk? Are they developing differently than their siblings? Is your child aged five or under and are you worried that something might be wrong? If your family speaks more than one language, maybe you’re wondering if this could have an impact on your child’s language development.

To learn what is “normal” in children’s speech and language development, join us for Language and Speaking: Is my Child on Track? This will be an interesting online information session with speech-language pathologist, Kristy Findlay on November 22nd at 7:00 p.m.  Ask questions about your child. Get information about helpful resources, if need be. Register here!
