October’s Wellness Bouquet

As the trees turn shades of orange and gold, we’re settling into the fall season. Seeing many of you at the Fall Fest event at Quebec High School was wonderful. What a heartwarming experience! Meeting familiar faces and welcoming new ones always brightens our community spirit. As October begins, WE have a mix of things to share with you.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women? Learning about risk factors, symptoms and screening can help save lives. In Canada, there are many resources to support those affected by breast cancer and to spread awareness. The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society offer helpful information on symptoms, prevention and the latest treatments. They also provide support for people with breast cancer, their families and caregivers. This month, we encourage everyone to take some time to learn more, share information and spread awareness. Whether you’re supporting someone affected by breast cancer or just want to stay informed, these resources are a great place to start.

Volunteering for others and for you

We are also excited to announce our upcoming Wellness Café on the Health Benefits of Volunteering. This session will be led by Elise Holloway, the volunteer coordinator at the Wellness Centre. She will talk about how volunteering can benefit your mental, physical and cognitive health. Elise will discuss both formal and informal volunteering opportunities in the English-speaking community. Whether you want to get involved or just learn how volunteering can improve your well-being, this session is sure to inspire you.

Join us to get your brain working!

Our Thinking Tuesdays series has been a big hit! Participants are enjoying the Jog Your Mind program, which helps keep your brain active with fun activities and useful information about brain health. Each week, participants complete “homework” that challenges their thinking and helps them stay sharp. We’re thrilled to see so many people taking part and having fun while learning how to care for their brain health!

Anaïs Fortin-Maltais, Well 50+ & Caregivers Program Coordinator

I hope you enjoy autumn and its beautiful colours.

Take care,

Anaïs
