8-1-1 Info-Santé
You can dial 8-1-1 Info-santé (health info) 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and choose one of three options:
- Option 1 to speak to a nurse for health advice. If you are calling about a child aged 0 to 17 years, there is also a reserved phone line to provide a faster response.
- Option 2 for a psychosocial worker for advice related to psychosocial or mental health matters.
- Option 3 to reach the Primary Care Access Point (often referred to as the GAP) reserved for people who do not have a family doctor (see below).
Find a family doctor
First, register with Québec Family Doctor Finder (GAMF) to get on the waiting list for a family doctor.
Get services while you wait to get a doctor
After you’ve registered Québec Family Doctor Finder (GAMF), until you get a doctor, two things may happen:
- A group of doctors could decide to take care of you. In this case, you may see a different doctor or health professional at each appointment, and you will still remain on the waiting list to find a family doctor.
- You can use the Primary Care Access Point or GAP (Guichet d’accès à la première ligne) to obtain a medical consultation or a health service. You can obtain a health service from the GAP by phone by calling 811, option 3, or online by using the Digital Primary Care Access Point.

Online medical appointment scheduling
- Use the Québec Medical Appointment Scheduler to schedule an appointment for family medicine online.
- ClicSanté is another online tool that you can use to book many tests, vaccines and blood tests, as well as equipment rentals.
Health Passport App 
The Health Passport App is designed to help you and your family keep track of essential health information on your smart phone or tablet. It also puts helpful words and phrases in French at your fingertips when you go to clinic or an emergency. Download the Quebec City version of the app at veq.ca.

Public health insurance
The Régie de l’Assurance Maladie du Québec (RAMQ) is the government agency that manages public health insurance in Québec. To qualify, you must be a citizen of Québec who is resides in Québec for 183 days or more during a calendar year.
Prescription drug coverage
Permanent residents of Québec must have prescription drug coverage at all times. Two types of plans provide this: The public plan, also administered by the RAMQ, and private plans. Please note, however, that if you qualify for a private plan (such as group insurance or employee benefit plans), you must join that private insurance plan.
Québec Health Booklet
Free, easy to use, reliable and secure, the Québec Health Booklet keeps your health information in a single place, including your medications and the results of your lab tests (including blood and urine) and medical imaging reports, and can help you to access certain services.
Quebec Health portal
A search engine for finding health and social service resources, the Québec government Portail santé mieux-être portal is available in both French and English.

Be sure to visit the Services Québec website for all kinds of helpful information about government services and practical advice for life events such as education, employment, health, housing immigration, and moving to a new address. Also features an online service to send your new address to seven government departments and organizations in one step.

Do you live in the eastern regions of the province of Québec? Do you have to leave your area for health services? The Travel4Health guide provides useful information to English speakers who have to travel for health services, helping you (and your loved ones) to prepare and to make the process as smooth as possible.

Call 2-1-1 or visit the 2-1-1 website for information and referrals to a full range of community, social and government services in the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.
