April showers bring May flowers!

April showers bring May flowers!  Yes!  Finally, the colours of the few first flowers are starting to appear. I don’t know about you, but the warmth of the sun on my face just feels amazing after a long winter. We can literally see nature changing daily when we look out our windows.  This time of year, full of the power of transformation, is magical to share with your children. Planting your own basic little garden, or even just a pot or two of plants on a balcony, with your kids can be a fun way to involve them in spring and the wonder of growing plants. It brings me such joy to see my children checking our seedlings everyday to see how much they have grown.

“No Mow May” and feed the bees!

If you have a yard, you probably have some spring yard clean up to do. This can be a fun, family activity no matter the age. Don’t be too quick though to rake those leaves or mow the lawn. Did you know that many creatures, butterflies or bees, are still slumbering or nesting?  Do your part to help them by taking part in No Mow May, a conservation initiative that began in the United Kingdom and is gaining in popularity on our continent. The goal of No Mow May is to allow grass to grow uncut or stay unmown during the month of May and feed early pollinators in turn. Québec City also participates in the Mois de mai sans tondeuse and is inviting you to do the same.

Park Playdates and Kickoff to Summer

Park Playdates are back for the summer and are a great way to get together with other English-speaking parents and caregivers of children of all ages outdoors. Hosted by parent volunteers, these free events take place in different parks around the city on Friday or Saturday mornings from May to September. Why not host your own playdate at the park of your choice? We are seeking parents like you who can lend a hand, so please reach out to me by email (jprice@jhpartners.net) if you would be willing to be a host for a playdate at the park of your choice.

Be sure to reserve the date of Saturday, June 10th for another Outdoor kickoff to Summer! This event was such a great success last year, we’ve decided to hold another one. Join us for a day of fun, storytime, outdoor games, food, and facepainting for your family.
