What You Need to Know About Advance Medical Directives

The Wellness Centre and Life Long Learning are partnering together with Éducaloi  to provide a community information session on the timely topic of Advance Medical Directives. This event will take place Wednesday, October 3 from 10 AM  to 11 AM  at  the Eastern Quebec Learning Centre.

Advance medical directives let you mention ahead of time whether you accept or refuse certain types of health care in certain situations. Medical staff must refer to this document and respect your wishes if you can’t make your own decisions about treatment.

At this learning session you will learn:

  • How to make advance medical directives;
  • Which treatments you can accept or refuse in directives;
  • When directives can be used; and
  • How to change, cancel or challenge directives.

Guest speaker Sarah Dougherty, lawyer with Éducaloi will be available to answer your questions related to these timely issues. In addition, Véronique Jobin-Goupil, social worker with JHSB Palliative Care Unit will  give a brief presentation concerning end of life services offered at the Jeffery Hale Hospital.

To register for this event, please contact Jan Anderson, Community Organizer with the Wellness Centre janderson@jhhpartners.net or 418-684-5333 Ext. 1539.
