Spring is in the air!

Spring may be officially here, but it is hard to believe with all the snow on the ground.  April is that crazy transition month in Quebec where we can expect anything from snowstorms to t-shirt weather.  For many of us, this is not our favourite time of year. Personally, I am not a fan of the dirty, muddy streets and sidewalks as the snow melts.

Have you ever noticed, though, how kids see the seasons and weather differently from adults? I have never heard kids analyze the weather like we do. They tend to look for the positives, and are great at finding the fun in any weather and making a game out of almost anything. This time of year, my children walk around with a glow in their eyes, seeking out the biggest and muddiest puddle to jump in. The theme is, “Let’s see just how wet and muddy can we get!” They scout around for dirty snow piles left in yards or parking lots and, when they do find them, they are always drawn to climbing to the top. Gravel and dirt on the roads? No bother!  “Let’s get our bikes out and race down the street!”  I love the carefree way that children naturally seek out the fun in any situation.

Indulge your inner child at our 2o22 Park Playdates

I don’t know about you but I often need to remind myself to take a step back and try and look at things more like a child sometimes .  Not always easy, but we can always try! Our Park Playdates are a great chance to do just that. Before we know it, the snow will be gone and parks and playgrounds will open once again. Although we had to put Park Playdates on hold for the past two years due to COVID-19, we are planning to bring them back for 2022!  Woot, woot!

Get together with other English-speaking parents and caregivers of children of all ages outdoors. Hosted by parent volunteers, these free events take place in different parks around the city on Friday mornings from May to September. Why not host your own playdate at the park of your choice?  We are seeking parents like you to lend a hand, so please reach out to me by email (jprice@jhpartners.net) if you would be willing to be a host.
