Family Matters – Activities for Parents of Preschoolers

There is no more important job than being a parent. The Wellness Centre offers a range of activities for parents with babies and toddlers to support you and put you in touch with other English-speaking parents living in the area. Parent Networking

Baby Chat Café

A great place for parents of infants up to one year of age to get together each month. Hear talks on parenting and exchange tips. Parents-to-be also welcome. For more details and for the latest schedule, open our Baby Chat Café brochure.

Moms’ Nite-out

Events for moms with young children to connect and get involved in the local community. These informal, fun volunteer-powered activities help moms recharge their batteries and meet others. MNO volunteers also help organize outings for parents and their children. For more details, go to the Moms’ Nite-out flyer.

Park Playdates

From May to September, join other English-speaking parents and their preschool children for get-togethers at the park Fridays mornings. Parent volunteers host these free events in different parks around the city all summer. Locations are posted in our e-newsletter Toddler Talk Online (so be sure to sign up for this online newsletter). Take-a-Break Drop In

From November to May, a place for parents with preschool children to get together while their children are being cared for by volunteers. Guest speakers lead informal talks on child health and parenting. For more details, open our Take-a-Break Drop In brochure.

Toddler Talk e-newsletter

A free e-bulletin with news about family-friendly services and activities and child-related health issues. See a sample at the Toddler Talk archive or sign up now. Open the Toddler Talk Guidelines for more info.

Travellin’ Toddler Time

A free activity of the Quebec City Reading Council just for pre-school age children, and their parents or grandparents. Sing songs, hear stories, enjoy a snack and make crafts. The activity moves each month between Saint Brigid’s Home, Morrin Centre, the Valcartier Military Family Resource Centre and the Eastern Quebec Learning Centre. Parent Know-how

Baby Book Bag

A free gift bag for new parents that promotes literacy and helps strengthen the parent/baby bond through reading. Contains reading tips from the Quebec City Reading Council, a free one-year membership to the Library of the Literary and Historical Society at Morrin Centre, and a baby book donated by La Maison Anglaise et Internationale bookstore.

Baby Massage

Offered twice a year by a certified massage therapist. Learn how to soothe and relax baby through massage. Strengthen the parent-child bond. Get to know other parents with babies eight months of age and younger. Open our  Baby Massage poster to learn more.

Breastfeeding Get-together

Breastfeeding support and advice from other parents and a certified breastfeeding consultant from Allaitement Québec. Everyone is welcome including expectant moms, moms who have breastfed before, those who are breastfeeding now, as well as those who may have chosen another feeding option. Breastfeeding Information Session for Expectant Parents:

At the Breastfeeding Information Session, a breastfeeding coach with Allaitement Québec offers practical advice for moms and dads-to-be.

First Aid Course

Given each year by a certified Red Cross instructor. Our first aid course for parents covers accident prevention, shock, fainting, choking, artificial respiration and CPR, burns, bumps, fractures, minor scrapes and bleeding, poisoning, bites, asthma, epilepsy and allergies.  Call us to express your interest in the next course, which should be held on Saturday, March 30th of next year (2019).

Get Ready for Kindergarten

Discover how you can help your child develop the skills needed to succeed at school before starting kindergarten in this “Get Ready for Kindergarten” workshop given by a psycho-educator.  Call us to express your interest in the next workshop.

Is My Child On Track

Get a better idea of what is “normal” when it comes to speech and language in children under five and ask questions about your child. The workshop “Is My Child On Track” is given by members of the early childhood team from Jeffery Hale Community Services and speech-language pathologists.

Speech Therapy Screening Clinics

With a speech-language pathologist at one of the “Speech Therapy Screening Clinics.” Screen your child for delays in speech and language abilities that are often easier to address at a young age.
