November 11th is Remembrance Day, a day dedicated to remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country’s freedoms and rights, both in the past and in our times. We all know, however, that anytime that we lose someone we love, each day becomes a day for remembering.
When we lose someone or something meaningful in our life, it is healthy to pause to recognize the grief we are feeling. Any loss can bring a great deal of grief, as can other events and challenges in our lives.
According to Grief Recovery Specialist CMA Medeiros, “There are over 40 losses we can experience in a lifetime. We can’t avoid grief, no matter how hard we try. Grief just accumulates and waits.”
That means that grieving is not solely connected to one day or to one loss. Losses can add up to make us feel paralyzed and numb over the long term. We may try to bury our losses, which creates a protective shell around us. In the long run though, this is like carrying around a weight that just keeps getting heavier and can also deflect joy from entering our life.
What if I told you that there is a way to cope with loss and to turn your grief into good grief? This month, the Wellness Centre’s Well 50+ and Caregivers’ Program events will include an introduction to the Grief Recovery Method.
Please join us on November 16 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom to meet CMA for this Introduction Session to explore just how ready you may be to start healing from the grief that is weighing you down.

If after that you do feel like you are ready to move forward with grief recovery, the course will consist of seven evening weekly sessions starting at the end of November.
