Finding your balance

I hope you are doing well and safe in this warm weather. August has always felt like a time to regain balance in life before diving into whatever fall may bring.  Fear not! I am not going to start the countdown to fall yet. We still have plenty of sunny days and opportunities to unwind. In fact, there are usually so many things to do in summer that our lives tend to speed up. So much so that you may even forget to rest, especially if you are taking care of someone else.

Anchor yourself

As a caregiver, you may find yourself thinking about what’s going to happen tomorrow, next month or even next year. It can be exhausting to think about someone else’s schedules and needs along with your own. If, on the other hand, you are grieving a loved one, you may find yourself reminiscing about the past.

To savour summer to its fullest, I would like to talk to you about anchoring methods. The principle is quite simple: once a day, try to anchor yourself in the present moment by noticing at least one thing going on around you. Whether it is something you can see, hear, or physically feel (for example, a breeze coming from the window or the rug under your feet), the goal is to pay attention to what is happening here and now. You can also use your breath to help you focus.

Make the most of it

I guess my message for you this month is this: Breathe, enjoy, and live life in the present. It has been a while since we have been able to get out and about, and it is just great to have so many things to do.

I hope that you are able to seize every moment of joy that summer has to give.
