Finding our balance this fall

Fall is a very busy time of year for families, don’t you find?  With the busier schedule that autumn brings, I know my family always seems to scramble a bit to find our rhythm and balance, and I’ve noticed we’re not alone.  Not to mention how we have all had to adapt our family routines in very “different” ways, to say the least, due to the pandemic. Ouf!

I have been grateful for a particularly gorgeous start to fall this year, with its warm days and nice and crisp mornings and evenings.  What a magical season! We can watch nature change her coat as we too get ready for another cozy winter.  Fall is also a GREAT time to get out with your little ones and enjoy the gorgeous foliage.  From simply raking leaves into piles, then jumping in and rolling around, or collecting leaves to making beautiful arts and crafts projects.  So much fun!

Outdoor family fun awaits!

Join the EPIQ parents on their Children’s Nature Walk on October 1st or Family Hike on October 16th.  These are two great ways to see some of the nature around us and connect with other English-speaking parents in Québec City (EPIQ) and families at the same time.  A win-win!

After that, Halloween is right around the corner.  Still trying to think up that perfect costume for your little one?  No worries, you still have time!  In a recent press release, Premier François Legault announced that Halloween will be a go for our “little monsters” but that everyone must follow health measures to assure that it will be a safe experience.  Be sure to check out these Halloween-themed activities around town.

Of course, you won’t want to miss the EPIQ Pumpkin Decorating event on Friday, October 22nd .  Hosts, Liana and Amanda will be there to greet you at this outdoor event that is open to all families. It’s a bring-your-own-pumpkin event, but we’ll provide the decorations!

And indoors?

Inside the community Wellness Centre, we too are slowly starting to find our balance again.  We are happy to report that we recently held our first in-person activities in over 18 months! September editions of both the Baby Chat Café and the Café au Lait Crew went off in safety and success.

Moving forward, we are still adjusting to the public health measures as they evolve, as well as how we apply them to our indoor events.  Please follow the EPIQ Group or Wellness Facebook pages for updates or check out this special Web page to read about what you can expect at the Wellness Centre this fall now that the vaccination passport is in function.

I hope to see you at at one of our activities soon, be it online or in person, either indoors or out! We hope that you’ll find something of interest on our October Family Matters Events Calendar, just bursting with events like School Readiness and other EPIQ events.

Jessica Price, Family Matters Program Coordinator

Warmest regards,

Jessica
