Verity, WE Mind Mental Health Program Coordinator from the Wellness Centre at Jeffery Hale, will be giving the Pathfinder Network training in-person at the Wellness Centre at Jeffery Hale.
This is an initiative launched by the Wellness Centre, which empowers community members to provide support to others in need. Not everyone realizes they need help or seeks assistance; they may not be aware of the services and resources available in English or how to access them. That’s where the Pathfinder comes in.
During this in-person activity, as a group, you will complete the two mandatory training courses and learn the NALLS acronym.
The training will cover:
- Your role as a Pathfinder
- Barriers to reaching out for support
- Breaking down stigma
- Setting boundaries as a Pathfinder
You will:
- Learn to notice changes that may indicate a decline in someone’s general health and well-being
- Discover how to create a safe environment where someone can talk with you
- Learn ways to approach and start a conversation with someone about their health and well-being
- Increase your confidence approaching someone experiencing a decline in their health and well-being
- Learn techniques to actively listen and communicate with someone you are concerned about
- Recognize when it is necessary to link someone to other services and resources and how to do so
- Be equipped with knowledge of support services and resources that are available in your community
- Find out about the importance of self-care for you the Pathfinder
Having attended this training session, you will receive your copy of the Pathfinder Toolkit and your certificate of completion.
