What a bumpy road these past two pandemic months have been! We’ve learned to navigate this unwelcomed new reality together, yet apart. Covid-19 has highlighted the vital, although sadly often-unrecognized, role family caregivers play in Canadian society. We have watched helplessly as a tiny virus wreaked havoc amongst our vulnerable senior populations – especially those residing in long-term care facilities or requiring homecare support services.
Through these tumultuous times, your team at the community Wellness Centre has done our best to continue to support you and your senior loved ones on this journey. We’ve switched our onsite programs to online versions. Many caregivers are taking part in our virtual art therapy and empowerment sessions. Others have been in touch by email or phone about their specific needs.
We’ve also partnered with Voice of English-speaking Québec to ensure grocery and medication delivery is available (no charge for delivery) for those in-need. Our team at Saint Brigid’s Home has been linking clients and families via Skype or Facetime. Special arrangements have been made to allow primary caregivers access to loved ones on site following strict provincial guidelines. We are still here to serve you.
COVID-19 hasn’t put a damper on our creativity! We are finding new ways to connect you with one another and with our services and programs while staying safe! We’ve even revamped our Caring Circle e-newsletter with a fresh look just in time for spring!
I hope it won’t be long until we can meet together in person. In the meantime, I invite you all to attend our next community outreach session happening this Thursday, May 21. Join us to learn more about recognizing and protecting yourself that those you love against elder abuse including ageism!
Hope to see you there!
